3 Cover Letter Templates for Your Job Search

When it comes to your cover letter, there are many easy mistakes to make. These include being too generic or repeating what’s on your resume. They also include focusing more on yourself and what you’re looking for and less on the company and its needs. But the worst mistake of all? Not including a cover letter at all.

As professional resume writers, we know that writing a cover letter can be a challenge. However, don’t skip this all-important opportunity to sell your background and abilities and highlight why you’re a great fit for the job. To get there, here are three different cover letter templates to consider:

Template #1:

Dear Mr. Smith,

I was excited to see your opportunity at [name of company]. I believe that my current position would make me an ideal candidate for it. Not only do I have ten years of experience in [relevant experience], but I also am well-versed in [additional relevant experience], which seems critical for your opportunity.

I first started working in my existing position as part of a promotion. This meant that I was challenged with a range of different tasks and goals, including increase [goal #1], delivering [goal #2], and creating [goal #3]. This enabled the company to take on more of [name an important accomplishment], which has increased our profits by X% over the course of the past year alone.

I know your company is on the verge of new growth opportunities, such as [opportunity #1] and [opportunity #2]. I am eager to be a part of it and think that because of my experience working on growth initiatives and increasing sales and profits. As a result, I’d be able to contribute in a positive way to your team and your organization overall.

Template #2:

Dear Mr. Smith,

I’ve held my current position for [number] years and believe that many of my skills and abilities will transfer seamlessly to your company. In this position, I’ve played an important part in supporting company growth through my:
